Sample War: Hilary vs. Jamelia

In a previous entry, fellow Jiingo writer and music lover Shan professed his love for the newest Hilary Duff single, Reach Out. Despite his enthusiasm, and my own previous love for Ms. Duff, I have to say, that something just wasn't sitting right with me and this song. See, a not-so-well known British artist by the name of Jamelia released a VERY similar record just a couple of years ago, and frankly I think that she used the sample better, and produced a better single as a result.

Lady GaGa @ Bazaar Atlanta October 29, 2008

Last night, I had the distinct pleasure of seeing the amazing Lady GaGa live, at a very intimate venue, the bar Bazaar, in Midtown Atlanta. The place was standing room only, and the place was packed with eager fans waiting to see Ms. GaGa take the “stage”.

We arrived early, so as to make sure we had a great view, and ended up being in the front “row”. After waiting a couple of hours, the white limo pulled up outside, and the tension in the room grew; we were ready for…

Y’all Betta Shut Up!

… and listen up!

Rarely, at least for me, does an artist live fully up to the hype that they receive; especially when they are so readily praised by almost everyone under the sun. I seem to be one of those people that often “doesn’t get it” while others are clearly seeing something that I do not; or perhaps I am just more skeptical to call someone the “next big thing” because I believe that title should be reserved for only those that truly are worthy of being amongst one of…

Changes are coming from Will Young

I have been a major fan of Will Young’s since his utterly brilliant last release, Keep On; a rare album, in that it doesn’t have one bad track on it. The combination of pop, soul, and jazz all wrapped up with a swoon-worthy voice is the hallmark of Will’s sound; one that he mixes effortlessly into well crafted, and carefully worded songs about love and loss. Will Young truly is a breath of fresh air for the pop scene, and he is about to release another potentially fantastic album.

listen to this: it’s Beyonce Jr.!

Just kidding… it’s not really Beyonce Jr., but it’s almost like that; it’s her little sis, Solange!

Now, after a failed first attempt at pop music stardom, Solange has been getting some real attention this time around with her “new” old-school sound. While the first single, I Decided didn’t really speak to me, Solange got my full attention with the dance-floor ready, disco-tastic song, Sand Castle Disco.

Take a look at the video (after the cut), and tell me that you don’t love this song. And… the best part? It is a…

Who’s Amazing?

P!nk! That’s who!

Check this out:

Seriously, how can you say anything but, “well damn, that song is pretty frickin’ amazing”?

That’s right! You can’t!

This song, produced by the amazing Max Martin, recently leaked, and is now getting major play; which is no surprise, because it is, say it with me… amazing! I for one, am glad that P!nk is coming back with what, if this song is any indicator, will be a contender for album of the year. I can’t wait for her new record, which currently, is set to be released…

listen to this: Georgia Wonder

I heard this song the other day, and I have been loving it immensely, and more so with each listen. Her vocal is very pure and earnest; and the tone in her voice and the tone of the song reminds me of Shakespeare’s Sister (remember that song Stay?!?!?! Hello 1992!). Of course, it is important to note that there is no crazy villianess in this song.

Currently, Georgia has an EP out on iTunes, where most of the songs have a similarly stripped down and acoutsic feel. Her voice is the…

Look Out Kelly Clarkson…

… because Lesley Roy is here to take your place!

It’s hard to believe that it was just a few years ago when one of the biggest, and most amazing pop songs of the decade hit the airwaves; Kelly Clarkson’s Since U Been Gone. Her pop-rock anthem was the ultimate “moving on” after the break up song, and was fueled by hard female vocals, and raw artistic talent that we hadn’t seen from the clearly amazing singer who won the first season of American Idol. With that song, Kelly shed her past,…

Our Favorite All Time Albums

Here it is, our list of all time favorite albums - these are the ones that we can listen to on repeat again and again and never get tired of.

Shan
Anastacia - Anastacia
Although I hate that she self titled this album it is definitely on the top of my favorite albums of all time list. I’ve had this cd in my car cd player since the first day I heard it and haven’t taken it out since. Any time I forget to bring my iPod along it’s the first cd in…

Listen to This: Lady GaGa

I first heard Lady GaGa’s debut single, Just Dance a little over a month ago, and at that time, I declared it “the song of the summer”. Well, as you may have noticed, it is hotter than all get out, and summer is in full swing; and as I accurately predicted, Lady GaGa is still dominating the top of my charts with this phenomenal hit.

Just Dance is one of the most infectious, beat-driven, pump your body songs out right now, and with this track, Lady GaGa has given me a…
