Sample War: Hilary vs. Jamelia

In a previous entry, fellow Jiingo writer and music lover Shan professed his love for the newest Hilary Duff single, Reach Out. Despite his enthusiasm, and my own previous love for Ms. Duff, I have to say, that something just wasn't sitting right with me and this song. See, a not-so-well known British artist by the name of Jamelia released a VERY similar record just a couple of years ago, and frankly I think that she used the sample better, and produced a better single as a result.

I have been a major fan of Will Young’s since his utterly brilliant last release, Keep On; a rare album, in that it doesn’t have one bad track on it. The combination of pop, soul, and jazz all wrapped up with a swoon-worthy voice is the hallmark of Will’s sound; one that he mixes effortlessly into well crafted, and carefully worded songs about love and loss.
